The Nines is overall a nice hotel, with a great location and excellent service. However, it is lacking the details that would be representative of a 5 star hotel. When I made my reservation several months in advance, I requested an early check-in (1 p.m), larger room, and also mentioned that it was my friend's birthday which was all noted in their system. When we got there, the room was not yet ready. So, we went to lunch, and received a call an hour later that the room was ready. When we saw the room, it seemed extremely small, however they did acknowledge that it was my friend's birthday with a little chocolate platter. Being that the early check-in and larger room request is just that, a request based on availability, it wasn't worth making a fuss over at the time. As we spent more time in the room, we notice little things such as the lamp switch always sticking when trying to turn it on, the shower gel pump not springing back up after pumping, and no bathroom amenities such as cotton balls or shower caps, which I use. So, as I spent extra time trying to pull out the button on light switch to try to push it back in to turn on/off the lights, and as I was trying to reset the shower gel pump, by pulling up on the pump, I also noticed that the paint on the walls and doors, and sink grout were all chipping, which should not be the case for this caliber of a hotel. We also had an interior view of the atrium, which was very nice as you can look down at the restaurant, Urban Farmer. However, when we woke up, we had no idea what the weather was like. At other hotels, I've received a one or two page newletter with the weather report and top news stories stuck under my door. It would have been a nice touch for the Nines, especially since we could not see what the weather was like from our window to know how to dress, as it both rained and was sunny on our trip. The location of the hotel was ideal with easy access to public transportation, or just walking around to see all the sights of downtown. Also, the concierge desk was extremely helpful, and friendly. We had brunch at the Urban Farmer, which was delicious. So, overall the hotel was great, but the little touches would make it much better!
