The Nines features a bold collection of curated art with over 400 distinct pieces.

We feature a bold collection of commissioned works exclusively created by local artists. Our extraordinary collection, curated by Paige Powell, a former Warhol confidante, comprised of over 400 pieces of art, including sculptures, paintings, and custom installations that grace the atrium, restaurant, library, lobby, and guest rooms.

Dynamic & Diverse Works

Some of the dynamic and diverse works include Melody Owen’s grand stairwell chandelier titled “Bird Song”, which uses glass, LEDs, and steel to create a 35-foot hanging structure illustrating the audio waves of bird songs from the Pacific Northwest. Additionally, video artist Matt McCormick has created Satellite, an abstract work of images from around Portland, on display in the hotel’s restaurant, Urban Farmer. The Library, with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves & a billiards table, features local artwork including pieces by filmmaker Gus Van Sant, cartoonist John Callahan, painter Chris Johanson, and emerging artist Nell Warren.

Guest Rooms

Each guest room at the Nines features striking original artwork created from a partnership between the hotel and the Pacific Northwest College of Art to create abstract monotypes and silkscreen images of varying sizes. The monotypes utilize materials such as crumpled paper to create textured shapes, while the silkscreen prints build imagery through a series of circles and rectangles, creating optical art.
